Enid Womens is proud to offer Gardasil to our patients.  Gardasil is the new vaccine created by
Merck to help prevent the infection of the Human Papilloma Virus(HPV) types 16 & 18 which is
responsible for 70% of cervical cancers.  It also helps prevent the infection of HPV types 6 & 11
which causes genital warts.  The vaccine can be given to women ages 9 to 26 whether they
have had a history of abnormal Pap smears or genital warts.  The immunization is given in
three parts.  Most insurances are now covering  this new vaccine.
Unfortunately abnormal Pap smears are found during annual
well women exams.  We offer in office colposcopy utilizing the
CerviPATH™ Digital Colposcopy System from CooperSurgical.
The benefits to our patients are:
  • Measurement and tracking of lesion progression and
    regression.
  • Incorporates the advances of digital technology.
  • Uses visual aids, which enhance understanding of
    medical conditions.
  • Images can be taken and reviewed later allowing a
shorter exam and affords less patient discomfort.
Dr. Ferguson also offers in office treatment of pre-cancerous
areas on the cervix.  Most  allow patients to return to normal
activities the following day.
  • Routine screening for cervical cancer should begin either three years after beginning
sexual activity or by 21 years old.
  • This should continue yearly until 30 years of age.  At this age you can then add testing
for HPV which may allow to move your Pap smears to every three years.
  • Women who have had a hysterectomy may be able to stop yearly Pap smears in certain
    circumstances.
Since each women has different health histories the screening intervals may be altered.  Dr.
Ferguson and Dr. McFadden would be happy to discuss your Well Women needs.
